Pre & Post Natal Care

I love to support Mums with both my professional experience of 14 years and personal experience of 6 years in finding safe and enjoyable ways to exercise and maximise your body's potential and recovery. I've had the pleasure of supporting Mums both with Physiotherapy and Pilates classes for the last 8 years in Harrogate, applying my APPI Pre and Post Natal certification skills alongside my Physio experience.

Pre & Post Natal Pilates

Physio Elise Pre and Post Natal Pilates classes are open to Pregnant and Post Natal Mums of any stage who require guidance and exercise tailoring for pregnancy-related factors such as:

  • Diastasis

  • Incontinence of bladder or bowels

  • Pelvic girdle pain

  • Low back pain

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Core strengthening, especially as part of C-section recovery.

Within the sessions, we will aim to cover as much core, mobility and strength training as possible to maximise the precious time and energy you are taking to exercise!

Children are welcome to this session, and some mats and toys will be available.

*If you are new to Pilates with me, you must arrange a 30-minute Pre Pilates Assessment or one of the Pre & Post Natal checks below before attending your first class.

Pre & Post Natal Checks

Pre-Natal Check

While all Mums have access to their Midwife throughout their pregnancy, it is very common for Mums to have lots of questions about joint pains and exercise during their pregnancy.

Pre-Natal Check includes the following:

Teach you HOW to engage your core and pelvic floor, and find a way to get it right for you so you feel more confident you are doing the right thing. This includes being able to RELAX your pelvic floor, not just lots of squeezing.

Education on how you can expect your body to change in the different stages of your pregnancy and how best to support your body as it grows

Assessment of your posture, low back and pelvis including advice for any aches or pains you are experiencing.

Exercise advice that is suitable for each stage of your pregnancy. Some home exercises to suit your body’s needs will be provided.

Advice on day-to-day adaptations for pelvic pain and a growing bump, particularly in the 3rd trimester

Education and prep for labour, including labour position practice and exercises

C-section prep including education on the recovery

Post-Natal Check

While all new Mums are offered a 6-8 check with their GP following giving birth to a new baby, Mums will often still have lots of questions related to their body, recovery and safe exercise.

Post-Natal Check includes the following:

Assessment of your diastasis gap size, and more importantly how your muscles activate and generate tension. This involves advice and prescription of the best types of exercises for you and your tummy.

Discussion and screening for both bladder and bowel dysfunction

Assessment and education regarding C-section scar management, sensitivity and safe return to exercise

Teach you HOW to engage/relax your core and pelvic floor, and finding a way to get it right for you so you feel more confident you are doing the right thing.

Assessment of your posture, low back and pelvis including advice for any aches or pains you are experiencing

Hypermobile joint advice and support postnatally, especially breastfeeding Mums who will exhibit joint laxity for longer

Exercise advice including progressed return to sport
